The “Five Greats” Test –

A new measurement of pop-culture excellence. Simply, if an artist puts out five great works in a row, they pass.

The AV Club thought of it first and applied it to albums.  (Led Zeppelin – yes, The Rolling Stones – close but no cigar.)

Then Matt Singer at IFC did it for directors (Scorsese – yes, Coppola – close but no cigar), and Salon did it for actors.
